my dive

Just wanted to thank you all so much for offering this service. When I was first told that you did tandem jumps for paraplegics my reaction was "I can do that". And I did, but would never have been able to if you weren't willing and able. You were all so professional and I actually felt safer "jumping out of a perfectly good airplane" than I do driving on a four lane highway. It was the experience of a lifetime. Special thanks to Rick and Fuzzy. Great to land on a good looking guy, Rick and you were lots of fun "Fuzzy" Dave.
Thanks again and who knows, maybe I'll see you again.

Photos from Labour Day?

Hi there!

Just to let you know, I REALLY enjoyed my tandem jump on Labour Day.... I was riding an adrenaline high for the rest of the week!  It was a great experience, and I've been recommending you guys ever since.  It was my first dive, my sister Rina's second dive, our friend Ginevra's first dive, and we really enjoyed the day.

I was curious if there would be any still photos (or video) of me from that day that I would be able to purchase?  I would have loved to have had the video made of my first jump out of the plane, but the weekend was busy and your camera men were fully booked.  Our friend Ginevra was able to get her video done, and it was so cool to watch.  I still wonder what my face must have looked like in freefall!

Thanks so much!  I'm sure you'll see me again in the future!

Cheers,
Jennifer McNairn

Since my first skydiving experience over the Labour Day weekend, I have not been able to wipe the huge smile off my face.
Friends are now asking me to please remove the skydiving DVD from my purse (where I keep it for impromptu viewing parties). LOL

A million thanks to Angus for making it such an amazing and wildly fun experience and thanks to Fuzzy Dave for the beautiful sunset shots.

You haven't seen the last of me……I will definitely be back for more!!!!

Hello!

I am not sure who this email will reach, but I wanted to take a minute and say thanks for the understanding and support with my first attempt at skydiving.  Although it was an unsuccessful one :)  I did thoroughly enjoy my first time ever being in a plane.  The landing wasn't half as bad as I had expected :)  The reason I am writing is to see about Saturday September the 27th.  I would love to come back with a friend of mine that has already jumped in the past with you and try again.  I am not going to change my mind or back out this time.  I think trying to conquer two firsts at once proved to be too much.  Now that I have completed being in a plane, I would like to take on the next challenge.  This is something I really want to do and therefore was hoping that I could make arrangements to jump with Will and see about exiting the plane backwards this time.  Would that be a possibility??  I started this journey with Will as my very patient instructor and would love it if it he would help me to see the experience through.

Your ever so charming cameraman had offered to do my video for me at no extra expense if I made the second attempt.   I would hate to let him down a second time.  You don't meet many people as thoughtful as that anymore.  Your staff was all supportive and made me feel pretty confident about coming back and giving it another try.  I would like to arrange to get up and jump as quickly as possible on the day we come if that isn't pushing my luck too much.  I hope all is well in the world of skydiving and that my few requests are able to be arranged.  Thanks again for everything and you can let your pilot know that I am no longer worried about my plane trip to Florida thanks to that safe and successful first flight!!

July 27 Skydiving

I did my first time tandem skydive at your facility on Sunday July 27. It was recommended to me by Norm Myers while in Cuba last March. What an experience!!!!.

Will, was my instructor and what a great guy to have. With his attitude and instruction, I had not a moment of fear from start to finish. We sail down to Gan each year on our sailboat. After hearing me go on about this for the last week, my wife Bridget plans to go for it next summer. Everyone that we came into contact with at the club was so friendly and helpful.

Thank so much for the great thrill.

after a long time, I couldn't have had a better experience

Hey all,

I just wanted to drop a quick note to say thanks for making my first (and not last) jump as exciting and thrilling as I'd always hoped! There's nothing to describe how I felt and the skill and expertise everyone at Skydive Gan obviously has helped make it the best experience I've ever had (not that there's a lot that can compare with falling toward the ground at 200 kph). I've told the story many times and I know when I come back I'll be bringing others with me. Particular thanks to Will and Rick for making us laugh and coahing us through jump #1.

Cheers!

Just a quick note to say THANK YOU! What a thrill !!! To my big surprise I was not afraid at all. The instructors are so friendly, funny and sure of themselves.

Francois (Alias Frank) Hamel was my Tandem Instructor and I trusted him (and his parachute) with my life! I did not have one ounce of worry in me. The landing was so smooth! Thanks for flipping me, twisting me and making this a great experience Francois!

My husband is in Afghanistan at the present and is coming home end of August. We are both going to be skydiving for labor day weekend....I have to share this experience with him. My son turns 18 in May and I will be taking him for his first Tandem Jump. He came to watch yesterday and he cannot wait until he turns 18 to try it out.

Next year I will be signing up for the full course......Yup, I am hooked!

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that I am in receipt of  'My First Jump Video' ..  there are no words to describe how great it was done, well above my expectations ..

words like AWES0ME, FANTASTIC, SUPERB, AMAZING, BREATHTAKING,  etc.. The background music by 3 Doors Down (Kryptonite) was perfect.

I would like to thank everyone at Skydive Gananoque for making my First jump so successful and memorable to say the least.  A big thank you goes out to Francois, Simon  and the jumper who wrote 'I Love You Mary Jo' at 2000'. Frank and Simon made me feel so at ease and extremely safe... please convey this to Frank and Simon.   I will definitely be making another jump in the near future.

Thank you!

Hello to some really amazing people,

Thank you so much for what will always be one of the most memorable weekends of my life. The jump was outstanding and I still can't believe how I truly had no fear to jump out of a plane for the first time in my life! Well, I guess jumping tandem really helps because you don't have much of a choice, BUT the real reason was to be able to hang out with everyone before jumping and develop a better understanding and appreciation for what it's all about. Everyone at the school is amazing, professional and great fun to hang around with. I just received the video – Simon, un gros merci, c'est génial – les prises de vue, la musique – trop cool! François, merci encore pour tout, grâce à toi, j'avais le sourire constant. Fuzzy, Rick, Tom, thanks for the great plane ride. If ever I can't sleep or feel stressed by something, I simply go back to the moments where I was falling out of the sky and the whole world just becomes a better place.

Dave and I will be back this summer, without a doubt.

Take care,

christina

I just wanted to thank you again for an amazing dive. The whole staff was
awesome and our group had a great time. In particular, the video was so well
done and everyone back home loved it in Whitby! I have began telling my
friends what a thrill jumping at Gananoque is and one of my buddies has
already gone and booked to go with his girlfriend in a couple weeks for the
first time.

My only request is can you please send me some of the photos taken on
Saturday June 14th and we jumped around 11am or so? The three of us that
jumped were Matt Likuski, Katharine Likuski and myself (Alex Clendinning).
I was the only one who jumped with a video but I was wondering if there were
individual shots you guys would have taken of any of our jumps, or even
individual shots from the video taken.  Any you could send us would be much
appreciated and I'll continue to spread the word about Gananoque!

Thanks so much guys & girls,

Hey Tom,

Everyone had a great time this weekend! I've only heard good things about their jumps, their instructors, and everything in between. Many are now considering second jumps and a few think they are interested in the Free Fall Program. I know a couple have told me they are now hooked, so I'm sure you'll see a couple of them in the future. Other than that, I think most will return next spring with their spring if I organize another big weekend.
So from everyone who jumped this weekend, Thank you for such an amazing weekend!!!

Greetings to all the great and friendly staff at SkyDive Gananoque,

Last Sunday, October 21, 2007 was a truly special and exciting day for me. Along with fellow members of my fitness group called the Soldiers of Fitness out of Ottawa, I actually jumped out of a plane .

This was my very first time skydiving! What an incredible day! Under the guidance and care of your expert staff, I overcame my fear of heights and experienced soaring through the air. To be honest, I had my eyes closed at first, ( just until the shoot opened), the rest of the jump was awesome. I don’t have the words to describe the feeling of sailing through the air.

Next time I jump, I will keep my eyes wide open from the very beginning. Thanks Rick for being a very patient skydive master.

And thanks Norm for the briefing prior to the jump. It helped lots. Actually ,the only thing that I remembered when we were up in the plane was the part about:: “having fun” and about letting “Rick do all the work”. I did and he did. A perfect combination.

Looking forward to my next jump,

With much appreciation,

Gerrie Normoyle

You and your staff at Skydive Gan are truly fantastic. Everyone is so helpful, friendly and downright great. So competent in their abilities that you can take the leap with them and experience the pure joy of skydiving.

Saturday Sept. 1/07, was my third dive and my second in a week.! This time it was from the twin otter, with Dave(alias Fuzzy). Thank you Dave for such an awesome skydive. It was terrific!

Each time I skydive, you guys teach me something more about your sport and I just love it. Some day, I think I'd like to take the lessons so I can do it myself, but that is someday, in the future,.......for now, I'm perfectly happy to trust you guys and enjoy the ride!

The two things that stand out at Skydive Gan are safety and fun. Safety being your #1 priority and you guys really do make it a lot of fun. Thank you.

You know, some mothers and daughters get together and shop. My daughter and I get together and skydive. I think I'm in a little trouble however, for going on my third skydive without her, but I'll remedy that next time she comes home for a visit during skydive season.

To the Skydive Gananoque Crew - especially Francois, "Fuzzy" Dave and Mr. McCarthy

Thanks for making my husband Gary's first-time tandem jump an awesome experience and a huge success. He has always wanted to go skydiving and made a special pact to do it before his 50th birthday. With his 50th approaching rapidly this March 2007 - I knew he would have to take the plunge this summer. So with 10 of our closest friends and family members we watched him fulfill his dream. You guys made it all happen! and boy! did you do it right! Everything was handled with professionalism and a unique style of humour that put us at ease. Francois - awesome jump - beautiful landing - you make it look so easy! Fuzzy Dave - fantastic video! We must have watched it over a dozen times so far - showing all our friends and co-workers, and each time I watch it I get all choked up all over again. What memories! It was such a perfect day and you couldn't ask for a better group of instructors and crew. Thank you. You may have even converted a few "terra firma" hard cases and next time you can be sure that Gary won't be jumping alone. Thank you again for a super day!

I have got to say, you guys are the best!  Rick, Tom, Fuzzy Dave and Nelson, you guys are a hoot!

I did my first dive on July 15th and what an experience it was!  I was the biggest chicken you could ever imagine!  You guys, with your humour, made me feel so at ease.  I truly did not think I could do it when I came that morning.  You all put me at such ease and were awesome!  I cannot thank you enough.  I, being a beginner, did not fully appreciate the free fall, but next time I certainly will!  Yes there will be a next time!  When I went that morning I thought it would be a one-time thing...Well having experienced it, I am soooo wanting to go again...Am planning on booking another jump in Sept, so I can fully appreciate the free-fall.

Fuzzy Dave, I have to tell you (and anyone else doing their first dive) you definitely HAVE to get video...I have watched mine over and over and am boring my friends with it, I am sure. LOL..I don't care...You did an incredible job and those who have watched it are amazed at the skill that you put into it, Dave...I cannot thank you enough!!!  You guys are just the best and I am working at getting some friends to join me on another tandem dive in Sept..

Thank you, all of you!!!

Hi Tom,

Just back from holidays and wanted to drop you a quick line to say "thank you" again for my second successful jump!  I"m sure you don't remember each person but we jumped a couple weeks ago, 2 of us for the 2nd time and we each brought a newbie.  Special thanks to Gilles and the guy that checked us in, I'm sorry I can't remember his name. And the DVD is amazing, definitely a treasure thanks very much.

I already have another new jumper for the next one so we'll be in touch.

Kind Regards,

To Everyone at SkyDive Gan!

I had this brilliant idea I wanted to skydive for my upcoming 50th birthday!! so my son and I came up to your drop zone on Monday.
I just had to take the time to say "THANKYOU!" for the amazing experience - special thanks to my tandem partner Gilles - you're the BEST! I can't
imagine that there is any thing that could compare to the thrill of skydiving. Your wonderful staff's sense of humor kept the nerves at bay.
I was surprised how relaxed everyone there made us feel. It wasn't until the drive home, the reality of what I did hit me... WOW!

I would recommend your facility to anyone thinking of skydiving.

Thanks for making my first skydiving experience such a great one.

I think I might have to try it again!

I just want to say that I had a wonderful experience jumping on June 17th. The staff was wonderful. They helped make sure we were confident in what we were doing.

My tandem instructor "Rick Powell" and "Fuzzy" Dave (the guy filming my DVD & taking the pictures) were so much fun to jump with.

My friends & I all really enjoyed everyone's sense of humour and we just had a blast.

I highly recommend that if you have the 'urge' to skydive for the first time to go with it. It is thrilling and exciting and I felt even more 'secure' than I anticipated.

For me the most scary part was going up in the plane (though we still partied it up and had a great time on the plane). Once I was flying in the sky there was no time to be scared anymore, just to have a wonderful, awesome, fun time.

Thanks again all for help making my first jump an absolute blast.

Cheers!!

I did my 2nd ever tandem skydive today and IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THE
FIRST!!!! When i booked my 2nd jump 2 weeks ago I couldn't stop thinking
about getting up there again....10,000 feet up: over the clouds, under the
sun...wide open blue sky all around and the rush as you drop weightless
from a moving plane , securely hooked to your tandem partner as you watch the
world rush up to meet you.....whoa....my heart is racing now, just writing
about it. I had the best time ever jumping with the awesome Fuzzy who took
us into a standup position as we left the plane so that I could watch the
plane fly away as we dropped down into the wind. IT WAS TOO COOL!!!! I
couldn't stop laughing! Fuzzy , you rock!!!! I can't wait till I get to go
back up again and again and again!!! If you are thinking of doing this,
don't wait...call today and talk to Nelson. (hi, Nelson!!- you rock,

recommend this adventure to anyone who has always dreamed of doing this
but is hesitating due to fear or any other misguided notion. You will be so
taken care of from the moment you arrive to the moment you are gently
gliding down to Earth with the time that has passed seeming like a mere
moment and you will be wishing for it to start all over again .
It was exciting, breathtaking, and fun and if you have ever had sex you
know that you always wish it could have lasted longer and can't wait till the
next time! Tandem Skydiving is just like that! You can't possibly not love
it especially when you are with a great partner!!!
I have already booked my next jump and so did the friends I was with. The

Everybody, I do not know where to begin.  Thank you, thank you and thank you.  This past Labour Day weekend was above and beyond the most amazing, exhilarating, out of this world experience I have ever had!!!

Here I am, never been on a plane before, afraid of heights, as chicken as a chicken can be and jump out of a perfectly fine plane.  What a feeling!! :o)

Rick, Simon, many thanks to you for making that day a memorable day.  Sense of humour that will never bore anyone.  You too truly did make it easier for me to be more comfortable and relaxed to take that first Tandem Jump.  To the girl at the counter, how right you were.  It does not feel like a falling at all and what a breath taking view it is up there :o)

Every time I hear a plane fly over our house it gives me goosebumps and sends me over to la la land, daydreaming of going skydiving again.  WoW!! I am still amazed.

Hmmm I wonder what this "4-Way Scrambles" on October 1st is?  Can't wait to find out.

Hope to see Skydive Gananoque soon :o)

Thank you all for that wonderful experience.

Just though I "Otter" thank Angus and everyone at Sky Dive Gananoque for the indescribable thrill of my first tandem jump this past Sunday, Labour Day Weekend, '05.  There are no words to sufficiently describe the experience of 14,000 feet and a 60 second free-fall, securely strapped to an experienced instructor, who gives you the confidence to fully 'enjoy the ride' and does all the work, so you can just go with the flow. (Sorry about forgetting what to do with my feet on the way out of the plane, Angus ~ I was so in awe of the incredible, mind-blowing view, I temporarily became a tourist, instead of a participant!  Thanks for the nudge.)

It was a long overdue adventure and I know once is definitely not enough.  It was a most-excellent 50th birthday present to myself and I already know what I want next year!!  Hope and plan to see you all again then.  Wishing you all blue skies and gentle winds -

Hi everyone at Skydive Gan!

I just wanted to thank you for the BEST EXPERIENCE my boyfriend, Rod, and I
have ever had!!!!! One hour before we were scheduled to jump Rod informed
me that we were going skydiving, as I was just told how to dress and what
time I had to be in the car by. What a great 24th birthday surprise that
was!!! I had a permanent smile on my face from the second I heard the word
"skydiving" to hours after we touched back down on the ground. I don't
think I had enough time to let what we were doing register so there was no
opportunity for nervousness and apprehension.

My nerves were calmed even more by the humour and professionalism of the
staff at Skydive Gananoque. What a great bunch of people you have working
there!!! My tandem jumper, Rick Powell, was joking around with us from the
second we got there and made the experience absolutely fantastic. I will
never forget the feeling of sitting in the plane with my legs dangling over
the edge, 9000 feet above the ground!!! INCREDIBLE!! I am soooo glad we
got the video package for my jump because I feel like I am re-living it
every time I watch it (I even scream with excitment every time I see Rick
and I falling out of the plane).

I loved the experience so much that I handed my credit card over to purchase
two more jumps within 5 minutes of landing!! I think we are going to go
again this coming long weekend when the larger plane is there and I can't
wait!!! Skydiving is very addictive, but in a good way. I think we'll be
bringing along several of our friends that are eager to try it out.

You guys give people incredibly memorable experiences every day...THANK YOU
=)

See you soon,

Abby

Hi,

I just wanted to thank you for giving my husband  the thrill of a lifetime!  The tandem skydive was the perfect gift for his 40th birthday party.  The DVD is amazing.  The quality is unbelievable.  Your staff are so friendly and personable and that really helped with his pre-jump jitters.  His Instructor, Rick, has a great sense of humour and he really made my husband feel at ease.

The only problem is I think he is going to want to continue doing this, and that's not going to be good on the wallet.  LOL

Thank you so much for a memorable day!

While I sincerely do want to thank all of you for the amazing experience of skydiving yesterday (twice even!), I also have to complain that you have created a musical monster!  My husband, Kevin, is singing a perpetual loop of his version of Tim McGraw’s, “Live Like You Were Dying;” so the constant refrain around him now is, “I took my wife sky diving, sky diving, sky diving….”

We have both been enthusiastically describing your service to friends and family, have lots of people lined up to come over and see the dvd, and our daughters are already looking forward to their 18th birthday present!!  Kudos to you, Fuzzy, for the super work on the dvd;  I had seen your handiwork before, but Kevin had no idea there would such quality—with music, effects, titles….so thank you very much for the great job in helping create such a memory!

Each of you was supportive, professional, enthusiastic and friendly – just the right combination for inspiring someone to leap from a plane at 9000 feet!  In particular, we have to thank Simon and Nelson for their freefall shows we got to enjoy from above, our pilots for getting us safely where we needed to go, and Frank, Will, and Dean for getting us safely back down again!  Extra thanks to “my guy”, Dean, for the way he was able to pry my fingers from the side of the plane opening with a firm, yet gentle, touch!!  Exiting was definitely the most frightening part of the experience – but also my favourite.  Thanks for the amazing time, Dean!

I’m sure you will see us again – perhaps arriving with a group of our “converts”!  And we’ll be staying for the bonfire next time, too! Well, my exclamation key is going to be worn out, so I’ll sign off now with best regards and much appreciation!

Mary-Anne (and Kevin) Bonsall

Hi guys and gals, Myles Jarvis here. I just wanted to say thanks for an awesome experience last Sunday! I waited way to long to try that! Gilles was excellent and made things go smooth and enjoyable! Thanks Gilles! Another thing I have to comment on was the quality of the DVD! Tell "Fuzzy" that he did an excellent job with the DVD and everyone who has watched it is very impressed with his professionalism and quality! Thanks "Fuzzy"!

I really appreciate the experience and I think I just may have to pursue things a bit further in the near future by participating in your Free Fall program some day! I'll let ya's know as the time comes closer but I this is something that I just have to do! Actually my brother Richard and I both were thinking the same thing.

Anyway, "Cheers" for now everyone and again...THAT WAS AWESOME!

WOW!!!!!!  I'm day 3 post -tandem-skydive and I still can barey put a full sentence together!!!!

On September 25th , we (Andre and I) celebrated my 30th birthday with the crew at Skydive Gananoque, and believe me, it's one that I will never
forget.

Of all the emotions you can experience while on "terra firma", multiply them 100 times and you're close to what you'll experience at 9000
feet......The sheer terror pre-jump, then slight relaxation while climbing to the appropriate altitude and joking around in the plane, then disbelief
when the plexiglass door opens and you are face to face with the entire sky and Earth is a long way down......Exhilaration.....while hurtling through
the air at "terminal velocity", then with the parachute deploying, a certain peace and wonderment as you drift on the gentle currents.

The crew on the ground and in the air are a hoot to be with ....and it's only when we watched the DVD (we've watched it about 30 times in the
past 24 hours and our friends and family have just about had enough!!!!!!) how even as they are joking around (probaby trying to ease the tension
???when they realized that I may bolt!!!!!), they are extremely professional and that they are primarily concerned with your safety and ensuring that you
are pleased with the entire experience.

We (Andre and I ) have dreamed of skydiving since we were children, and Skydive Gan helped us realize this dream!!!!!!! A HUGE thank you to
everyone on the ground and in the air.....Especially our tandem instructors Will and Rick, Nick our pilot, "Fuzzy"Dave for the AWESOME DVD ,

Nelson for going out of his way to deliver the final product, the çhute packers for being so skilled, and finally everyone who went out of their way

to wish me a Happy 30th!!!!!!

Leonardo da Vinci was correct when he said:
"...and once you have tasted flight you will walk the Earth with your eyes
turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you long to  return."

We will return....soon!!!!!!!
Hooked on skydiving........

Wendy and Andre

P.S. Happy birthday to Norm who celebrated on the same day!!!!

Subject: Chris and Jeres tandems

Hey guys I just wanted to let you know how much fun my friends had this past weekend during their first tandems. This is a post Jere made
on there computer nerd chat site community they are a part of. It is a pretty funny read.

Dave

#3748 By: Carrion Luggage [ Reply ]

Ok, this weekend, Ghost Hacker (CHRIS) and I (JERE) jumped from a plane. Maybe he can come up with a proper description of the sensations and emotions involved and resulting from, but I cannot. I've got a pretty good vocabulary, but there is nothing I've ever done that can possibly compare with the assault on your senses that occurs when you exit the airplane. I'll try, though, because even though it's 2 full days after I have jumped, the rush and excitement are still very, very real. Ask my co-workers. Ask my other roommate. Ask the houseguests we had Saturday night, that we bored the snot out of with the same stories, told with wild-eyed fervent excitement. I think now word is getting around that 'Don't ask him about his weekend. He will  *not* shut up about it." The best I can come up with is a series of disjointed sensations and feelings that I will try to describe, but again, this is impossible to write about, as there is no point of
reference to this stuff.

The drive up from Ottawa to Gananoque took place at mostly 140 Km/hr with quite a bit of giggling, foot-tapping, hooting and whatnot, as the excitement and tension built up to intolerable levels. I screamed a the cows every chance I got, such is my old habit. "MOOOOO!" at the top of my lungs, and giggled at the way they turned their stupid cow-eyes to stare.

We took off, with Ghost Hacker, his instructor Rick, myself, my instructor 'Fuzzy' Dave, my buddy Dave (who is the driving force behind skydiving, now) and a guy named Norm, who was doing what is called a hop & pop, a quick little lift and bail from 3500 feet. Took pics aplenty on the way up, and it was very interesting to see Norm get all goggled up, unstrapped and tethered, and open the door, and jump out. Very interesting. Then we climbed a bunch more. The door is a sheet of Plexiglas that bent up and over the cabin on little rails.  Pretty much by that point, if the plane failed, we'd be jumping anyway, so I saw no need to pick nits. Heh. I would put visibility on the order of between 100 and 150 miles, the sky was almost completely cloudless, and the view was simply spectacular, given the door was also essentially a window. I stowed my camera away for fear of taking all the pics, but when Fuzzy Dave showed me his altimeter at 9000 feet,
I asked to take a picture of where we're going from where we were, and he said 'No. That's how close we are.' 5 seconds later, the call went out, "DOOR!" That's when everything starts to really lose cohesiveness. Dave went out the door. Next time I saw him, he was under canopy waaaay below us.

I did everything pretty much that I was told to do, when I was told to do it. In the plane, the instructor strapped himself to me, then we pulled open the door. I was leaving before Ghost Hacker so I got mentally prepared. Waste of time. Nothing compares. At the door, I grabbed my shoulder harness straps, for safety's sake, so I wouldn't flail around and elbow Fuzzy Dave in the lips, or pull the chute, or make an unauthorized long-distance phone-call, whatever. No problem. I tucked my head back into his right shoulder, so my head wouldn't snap back into his chin when we bailed out, again no problem. Moved my feet form the little sandpaper-strip coated step under the exit door, then let them float when he told me to. Once again, no problem-o. He counted, too loudly, I thought, into my ear, then told me were were leaving. We left. Here's where language and thought fail me, but I will try. Loudness. It was a constant roar, but most certainly not
uncomfortable. It didn't feel like falling, because the reference points, all the landmarks on the ground, don't change so much while you're falling. It felt more like floating than anything. The sensation of the pressure on your chest of the air rushing against you only adds to the sense of confusion at this most unusual of places to be. Falling. Having just jumped *out of an airplane.* I felt incredibly liberated, adrenalized, wild, crazy, ecstatic.

After stabilizing, he patted me on the shoulder, and gave me a thumbs up, at which point I started wildly punching the air and making \m/ O \m/ signs like my head was on fire. Again, it was very difficult hearing myself whooping with sheer delight. Then, all too soon after falling for an eternity, he tapped me again, and I grabbed the shoulder straps on the harness again, and to my incredible excitement/dismay, he deployed the canopy. I thought the fun was over. I was very wrong. The deplooyment was far more gentle than I'd thought it would be, and I forgot to look up at the chute while it came out. I've helped Dave pack his a number of times, examining the way each fold and line gets stowed, so it comes out in an incredibly efficient and fast manner. Under canopy, he told me I could resume taking
pictures, which I promptly did. Those'll be up before too much longer, I promise. Fuzzy pulled a corkscrew, and we spun, us at one end, and the canopy at the other. It exactly like being swung around on a string, like a tetherball. Swooping was also a blast, and easy to describe. Drop one side of the canopy, and it just about turns side ways like this: /| ground || o-< || \/\ Then you swoop, dropping forward, falling under gravity's own full power again, and you swing back under the canopy. It feels very much like exactly that moment in a roller coaster when you 'go over the top.' He also let me steer. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be, but it was all me steering. There are 2 sets of steering toggles, and his did remain in the loops, but only mine steered for a little while. Seeing the canopy droop under my own power, and the resulting slide to the side blew my head clean off yet again. He told me (you could hear waaaaaaay better, Fuzzy Dave and I could talk normally) and pointed to where Ghost Hacker and Rick, his instructor, were also under canopy. I pointing the camera, and Fuzzy Dave told me to wait a bit, they'd be closer. They did come closer, and I shot a pic, and he said, wait they'll be closer... They passed right across, from right to left, in front of us, and I screamed and hooted, and snapped another pic, and before I knew it, we were riding along parallel to each other, and I think he was expressing his enjoyment as I was, it's just I couldn't hear him over my own shrieks. We split off again, and began the landing approach. More gentle turns and swoops, and seriously, it was way softer than anything I'd anticipated.

The target circle is about 30 feet across, with a black dot in the middle. Fuzzy Dave told me to hold my legs up in case we had to go in sitting, but told me "Stand up," at about 4 feet off the ground. It was about the same landing as I would make jumping from a height of about 8 inches. No jarring shock, no nothing. I started up again, having just had, literally, the experience of a lifetime. I tried to run away, but was still attached to Fuzzy Dave. He unbuckled me, then I tore around like a 2-year-old loaded up on sugar and amphetamine, and having just discovered something fun. I was incoherent, only able to speak in rapid-fire stuttering sounds, no real words, just howls of glee interspersed with attempts to speak. Failed attempts. I was in total sensory and emotional overload. Ghost Hacker came in for his landing, and we hugged, high-5'd, rolled around on the grass, ran in circles, tried to belly-flop onto Ghost Hacker but somersaulted over him instead... all while giggling and barking like idiots. I guess the guys from the airfield took the rest of the shots of us doing so, because after the last group shot of the 2 Daves, Ghost Hacker and Rick and myself was taken, I was handed an camera with no shots left. I'm sure I felt way more than that, but each individual sensation is far less than the sum of all of them put together. All of them put together is greater than any one thing I have ever experienced in the almost 34 years I have lived and breathed. Sex, alcohol, any moral/sporting victory... any one thing. Any. Everyone, barring illness or crazy phobias, should try a freefall session. It's a cannot find a strong enough word to describe something cool time. Srsly. Questions not only invited, but encouraged. If I can get one of you wuffos (wuffo you jump out a perfectly good airplane?) to try it, I feel I have a converted a soul.

The jumps took place at Skydive Gananoque, Ontario, Canada (check out the qualifications and shit
on the guys there, especially the guy who I tandemed with, 'Fuzzy'
Dave Hatherley.

To those of you that read this, thank you. Seriously. This weekend has
changed both my life, and totally redefined the things I call 'fun.'

To all the staff at Skydive Gan:
Thanks for an amazing experience! It was everything I thought it would be and more! Special thanks to our
instructors Rick and Will, you guys are truly amazing and professionals!  Also thanks to Frank -the video
footage was fantastic and it was so awesome to see you 2 feet away thousands of feet up in the sky! And to
Steve our pilot for a safe trip and to Fuzzy for putting together a really terrific composition on DVD!
We're coming back next year and we're hoping to bring some friends!

See ya next summer! Sharon Douris

Hey Guys,

This is Nicole. My aunt (Natalie) and I were there for the last Tandem Otter Jump (July 2nd). I just want to say that we had a blast. I swear, I am now addicted. I think that your staff are great (especially Will and "Fuzzy"), except for the fact that you guys couldn't get our names right (haha). You guys were very informative and you joked with us the whole 14,000 ft up. We felt extremely comfortable and would do it again in a heart beat. Thank you!! We'll probably see you guys for the next twin otter boogie if not sooner! This time, we'll call ahead to get the video. Take care!

Thanx again :)

Subject: Thanks for the great day!

Josh here, from the Josh and Amy that jumped with you guys last Saturday (June 19th).
Just wanted to say thanks for everything.  Amy and I haven't stopped
grinning since we hit the ground.  You guys did a great job keeping us calm so that the
whole experience was enjoyable and not nearly as stressful as we thought it was going to
be.

I think I've watched the video about 1000 times and still break into a
sweat every time I watch it. I have shown the DVD to absolutely every person I work with
and every person I pass in the street.

Again, thanks guys.  We had a great time, and we'll see you again in the near future.

PS.  Amazing job shooting that video Dave.  Still have no idea how you managed to keep
the camera pointing in the right direction.  I guess you've had some practice.  <grin

Thanks again guys.

Amy and Josh.

Hi Tom, Gill and the entire crew!

Now that I've come down out of the clouds a bit more... I just wanted to say thank you for a great 1st tandem experience!  I'll never forget it and I think it's something I could see myself doing again - never solo though, too much to worry about.  But just floating about without a worry in the world and the amazing view was so much more than I ever expected.

It was obvious with your company safety is 1st and foremost.  I felt I was in good hands from the very start.

Again, thank you for a wonderful experience!

Best regards,

myrna cheney

Dear Mr. McCarthy (Tom),

We wanted to send you a quick note now that we're back in Japan, to thank you for the excellent experience we had on 20 Aug when we both took our first tandem skydive with Fuzzy and Gilles. As you may recall, we were at the end of our honeymoon and we thought it would be a great way to finish it all up with excitement and a major thrill.

Both Gilles and Fuzzy were extremely professional and thorough, but with a light and humorous touch, and we would especially like to thank them both for our kickass skydive.

We hope to be back and visit sometime in the future, but in the meantime will certainly recommend your Centre to any friends in eastern Canada/US who may be seeking a similar fantastic experience.

Thanks for letting us start married life with a major rush!

Best regards,

Chris & Naomi Keeffe

Thanks to all...

You guys are the best. I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that this weekend changed my life. The thrill of skydiving was better than I even imagined. You are a wonderful group of very different individuals and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet you all.

Of course, after seeing my video and seeing me all juiced up from this weekend, my husband Rick says that he is ready to take the plunge. I told him that I am ready whenever he is. I am almost convinced that he is serious. You may see us come up again this year... you never know. Otherwise, I will have a full year of anticipation for our next encounter in the sky.

Rick, you are by far the best instructor I ever had... (smile) Fuzzy, thanks for making me a movie star... (smile) Shelly, let me know about Australia, and congratulations on your graduation. I feel privileged to have your graduation jump on my video.

And a very special thanks to you, Ray, for turning me on to this unbelievable sport. You are a good friend, and a great Salsa partner.

Bye all and stay real.... Beth

Hey!

I wanted to thank you all for an amazing experience. We came up last Saturday for my roommate's birthday and had an incredible time.

The staff was wonderful, very friendly and professional. I never thought that I would have enough courage to do something like that, but it felt so natural once we got there.

I also want to thank Fuzzy and Rick for their comedy routine on the plane ride up. It really calmed my nerves (even if I didn't laugh at the time). I know that I'll be back soon, because I miss it and your staff already.

Thanks again!

Hey Gilles, Dave and Will,

My girlfriend and I just wanted to say thank you for everything that you did to make our First Tandem Jump one of the best experiences that we have ever had in our lives.

I hate to admit it, but I was very nervous in the plane... but you guys made the mood very light and up beat.

Gilles I wasn't kidding when I said that you have the best F@#*ing job ever. We loved the videos Dave, you did an excellent job... especially with the faces that Will was making in the plane. Also Gille's swimming technique in the background was an Olympic Gold performance - ten points all around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers - we'll be back!
Digdem and Phil

Dear Tom, Will, "Fuzzy" Dave, Frank & the rest of the team,

What a marvelous experience and what a thrilling ride! I told my kids that their Mom was no sissy! I wanted a thrill and I sure got more than I bargained for. Funny thing is that I am most grateful that I had a cut-away. It was by far the most exhilarating ride that I could ever have imagined in my wildest dreams. Will was such a pro that I never did get concerned but instead considered him a godsend and I relished every second I was in the air.

You are a wonderful family. From the time we arrived, we were aware we were in good and friendly hands. Safety is of utmost importance to you and we appreciated your professional approach. Only when the winds died down and it was safe to go did you allow the jump to take place. When I landed with Will, I felt like royalty with all the family congratulating me. Subsequently, I also very much appreciated the delivery of the video to my home by Frank.

I have enjoyed showing the video to my friends, neighbors and anyone who comes along. Heck, I have even found new friends walking down the street. Thanks for such a big thrill from an outstanding and unique group. Kudos to you all!

G'day Will and Rick,

Jennifer and I just wanted to write a quick note thanking you both for what was undoubtedly the greatest experience either one of us has ever had. Your professionalism was apparent and your attempts at keeping the mood light and the tension to a minimum were much appreciated. Neither one of us had the slightest bit of apprehension about jumping once we saw that we were in capable hands and we will definitely be back to experience the sensation again!!

People have been asking us what it felt like and we've been finding it impossible to put into words!! We’ve been telling them it's something you've just got to experience to understand, so hopefully next time we go we'll bring a few extra people with us!! Truly an unforgettable day!!

Thank you both again and we'll hopefully see you all again soon!!

Jennifer Steele and Randy Doxtater

Hi,

I wanted to say thank you to you and your team for making my first jump a great experience. I realized a dream of a lifetime when I stepped out of that plane last Saturday July 5 (around 4:30) and thanks to my tandem instructor (which I cannot remember his name, I guess I was so excited!! Sorry, instructeur!!) but he was so great with me and he made my jump so enjoyable. Thank you to Fuzzy. He did a great job on my video. It is fantastic. I keep looking at that video and I just cannot believe I did it!

All these guys made me feel so good, secure, comfortable and I enjoyed it more than words can describe. It was a great day and I will never forget it. Now I can’t wait to come back for some more tandems. It was my first, but definitely not my last!!!

What a way to start a new life....... at 50 years old!!!

Thanks again, you have a great team!
A special thanks to Nelson for bringing my video to Ottawa.

Will, "Fuzzy", and all:

Thanks for the great experience this morning. I truly loved the Tandem jump from 10,000 feet - not to mention the fantastic scenery from above. I'll take an 8:15 am flight anytime with you guys! The video was amazing. God bless you all and have a safe jump season.

Tom,

I wanted to say thank you to you and your team for making our first jump a great experience. The professional nature and atmosphere at your facility made us fell very comfortable and at ease with the fact that we were getting out of an airplane at 10,000 feet. I know that Ashley and I are both actively recruiting some other first timers and you will probably see us again in the next month.

Regards,

Rob Charlebois

Thanks for the ride of a lifetime!

Thanks again to Dean and Gavin and Tom and all of those who helped me out during my first jump. The relaxed atmosphere of Skydive Gan really helped me to lose a lot of the built up nervousness I had before I made my first skydive. I had a great time with Dean (my instructor) and Gavin did a fantastic job on putting together a great videotape. Since I jumped as an assignment for school, I am sure that I will get a great mark because I remember so much of the experience - although putting my feelings into words may be a little difficult.

Anyways THANKS FOR AN UNFORGETABLE TIME!!

Take care,

Hi Tom,

Just wanted to drop a line to say thanks again for an absolutely amazing day yesterday. I realized the dream of a lifetime when I stepped out of that plane yesterday and thanks to you, my tandem instructor Dean, Fuzzy and my pilot I felt comfortable and enjoyed it more than words can describe. It was a great day and even though my jump was delayed we thoroughly enjoyed just being there, chatting with everyone and being made to feel so welcome.

We'll be back in the spring for Morley's jump. I'm almost as excited for him as I was for myself. I've watched the video 3 times today and I relive it every time. It was awesome! Dave did a great job! Thanks again for everything.

Sheila Winter.

Dear Tom,

I just wanted to drop you a line. I had the experience of skydiving for the first time last Sunday at your facility. Your company and all we dealt with made it very enjoyable and I must say, a little less nerve racking. The constant joking and yet professionalism made it a great experience.

A special thanks goes out to Gilles, my tandem instructor. He constantly made me aware of what was going to happen and when, which made me a lot less nervous (if really nervous at all). However, after viewing the video that I purchased and seeing Gilles thumbs in my ears, I may have to re-evaluate our relationship. When I show people the video, I just joke that I had a little Frenchman strapped to my back. Joking aside, Gilles made the jump a lot of fun for me and something I definitely will do again.

I would also like to thank 'Fuzzy'. The video is fantastic and people I have showed it to want to try the sport which means I may bring a group there in the spring. I am already working on that. Fuzzy also helped make the freefall less nerve racking.

Once again, thank you very much for the experience and I am recommending your location to all I talk to. It is a bit of a hike for us (4 hours) but well worth it.

Regards,

Bill Zavitz

Tom/Fuzzy

Thanks for the wonderful and thrilling highlight of my weekend. I never thought I would do it but now I cant wait to come back for some more tandem skydiving maybe with a few tricks huh fuzzy?

Fuzzy....I've watched the video many times....my kids thought it was the coolest video they ever saw!!! Could believe their mother would actually take to skydiving. We did have some laughs while watching the video....you trying to hold my head up to look at Don and as well as the time you kept tapping me several times before you could open up the parachute....it was funny!

My dept staff were very impressed and were in awe after watching the video...now I'm trying to convince them not to miss out on something as thrilling and exciting as it was for me.

Thanks once again guys...and hope to see you soon.

Cheers!

Sofia

P.S. Thanks to Don for the great video!

Tom,

Just a quick email to thank you for the highlight of our stay in Canada. Clare and Anne have fantastic memories of their dive on Sunday 2nd September. I thought your instructors were equally kind and skilled. We just watched the vid with great pleasure after getting it back from being converted to pal and it prompted me to let you know how much their experience meant to them.

Of course, the evil that has fallen on America has shaded our view of the world, particularly as Clare was in a hotel just a mile from the Trade Centre and witnessed the unfolding tragedy. She was due home on Wednesday but she is safe and well and will be home next week. The vid helped because watching her huge smiles brought Clare a bit closer. Please pass our huge thanks on to Angus and Rick.

Stay skilled, and if that fails, be lucky.

Hi Gilles,

I've had the opportunity to view our video from our jump on Sunday several times. I'm lucky to have 2 views of the jump, sky and ground views. What a trip! I hope that your eardrums have recovered from my initial scream as we departed the plane.

I realized that I thanked you for the cool experience but I didn't congratulate you for reaching a pinnacle in your skydiving career. I was still so not on the ground from my own experience. I apologize for this oversight on my part and want to officially congratulate you for having successfully completed your 1000th tandem jump. Thanks so much for letting me part of the experience. It's still the last thing I think about when I go to sleep and the first thing in my head when I wake up. I hope that this is normal.

I see that we made the web site and I've sent the url to many of my friends to take a look. Paul will be sending you the picture he took of us tomorrow when he brings the camera into the office.

You have to tell me how I got to be the lucky candidate to go up there with you. You said that you had been waiting since early in the day and that several people had come in, why me??? I guess you were running out of time. Anyway, no matter - I had a great time once I got over the shock of being pushed out of a plane at 11,000 feet.

Thanks again and I wish you continued success with your jumping. Who knows, maybe I'll see you next year and will want to take another leap of faith with you.

Bye for now and be careful up there!

PS: Say hi to Robin, Rick, Fuzzy and Tom for me - all the others too....

Myrna Goyetche

I did a tandem jump yesterday with Gilles. I want to thank Skydive Gananoque for giving me the thrill of a lifetime.

I especially want to thank Gilles and the team who worked together to help my father, Tony Xuereb, in his second annual "Jump for Hope". Gilles made me feel very comfortable and he did an excellent job. I really enjoyed myself and I know my dad did as well. I will be back next year for sure.

So, thank you and see you next year!

Aaron Xuereb

Note: please take a look at the Skydiving Pics Gallery Archives for pictures of Tony's jump. Tony is a quadrapelegic and we had to make special preparations to ensure his second jump was as successful as his first, made last year! Tony suffers from MS and his two jumps were both made in order to help raise money for research into this disease. Due to the special nature of this jump, much preplanning had to be accomplished in order to ensure that it went off without a hitch.

I just thought I would take the time to write you all a little something to show my appreciation.

I recently brought up a party of 5 people on Sunday August 12. Everyone of us agrees that we had not only a good time... but the best time of our lives !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't only the jump that did it to us though... Tom, your staff really is the best. They not only put someone who is new to the sport at ease, but they know when it's time to joke around and make the nervous rookie smile a little bit and forget about being so afraid... BUT, then there is also that side of them that knows when it is time to be serious and explain what is supposed to happen thoughout the experience...

SO ALL OF US FROM OTTAWA WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TOM, "FUZZY" DAVE, ANGUS..... YOU GUYS SERIOUSLY KICK A$$!!!!!!!

John almost bailed that day.....but he hung on and never regretted it!!!
Nadine just screamed her face off on the way down...
Kevin is now a junkie..... (you got him hooked guys! right on!)
Julie is definately never gonna be the same... She found a new hobbie!
BUT I STEVE TREMBLAY..... NOT ONLY NEVER STEPPED FOOT IN A PLANE BEFORE.... AND HAD A SEVERE FEAR OF HEIGHTS!!!!!!!! I DID IT!!!! RIGHT ON!!!!!! THANK YOU ANGUS! YOU MADE IT HAPPEN MAN! I'M GOIN' TO DO WHAT YOU DO IN A FEW YEARS MAN. HOPEFULLY.!!!!!!

I WISH YOU AND YOURS ALL THE BEST FOR THE FUTURE! KEEP FLYIN' THE FRIENDLY SKIES ALL!!!

WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT TIME! (YES, THERE WILL BE ONE!)

From 10,000 feet below you........... Steve THANKS.

P.S. If you wanna use some pics from the videos, feel free .... Would love to help you guys advertise. And I'm bringin' more people next time.

See you on the beach!

Steve Tremblay

"Come to the edge - he said.
They said: We are afraid.
Come to the edge - he said.
They came.
He pushed them, and
they flew..." - Guillaume Apollinaire

Thank you for making my first jump (push!) out of a perfectly good airplane such an enjoyable & enlightening event. I've discovered that people who skydive aren't crazy, they're just living life large! Your collective & comforting humour is only surpassed by your sharp skills and good instruction. Both allowed me to have faith & have fun. Enough fun to go up and do it again right away!

A special thanks to Angus for making that first step off the plane less scary (twice), to Fuzzy Dave for dubbing my great video, to Gilles, Will & Robin for the inflight entertainment, to Don for flying high and most of all Mr. Tom McCarthy for being hands-on in offering a top-notch environment. You have a great "family"!!!

See you again soon...
Lisa Giammaria

Mr. McCarthy & Staff,
Thanks to all of you for making "my day" a winner. Needless to say it was one of the most exciting days of my 70 years.

Special thanks to my teacher Gilles and to Fuzzy for the video. There have been many viewings by family and friends. Even with the video, some can't believe I did it. My friend Anita and I truly enjoyed our time spent with you and if life continues to treat this "old broad" well, we will definately be seeing you in the future.

Once again, THANK YOU
Alice B

Note: Alice is the "young at heart" person shown in the picture at the top of the main page of this website.

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to say thank you for one of the most enjoyable days I have ever had. My tandem jump with Angus on Saturday was my first and definately not my last!!! I have tried to explain the excitement to my friends but it is so hard to put it into words. Everyone should jump at least once in their lifetime. Angus, thank you again for making it so much fun. Hope to see you again this year. Maybe in the Fall for a sunset jump. Fuzzy Dave, the video is FANTASTIC. I still can't believe I was holding your hand up there! That was so cool.

Take Care,

Deby LaCroix

Hey there !
I just wanted to drop a line to say thanks for the most exciting time of my life. A special thanks to Gilles who still went up with me after I told him 20 times I was going to barf on him. Lucky fool ! The tape was amazing. After watching it my parents have decided that they would like to try it too. When I bring them it will not be via Montreal and going home I will make sure we have enough gas to get home. I would like to book a jump for the 3 of us and probably Jason too for some time in towards the end of July if you have a spot available. I have decided that when I grow up I want to be a skydive instructor but I think due to my lack of height whoever dives with me would hit the ground first.

Thanks again.

Bobbi

Hi Tom:
I wanted to write to you for several reasons... first off, I want to thank you for an exhilarating experience. Scott and I had a wonderful time. Your team made us feel very comfortable and the time you took to explain the process made me, in particular, feel like I was in safe hands. Which brings me to the second reason I'm writing. Now that Scott and I are down from our high and have had time to "rationally" think about it, we would like to consider moving to the next step. I was meandering around on your website (great site by the way) and in the "Transition to Freefall Program", it indicates that we should have let our instructors know that we were "interested in progressing to the next step" What is the set time in which we should complete our mandatory tandem jumps?

Again, thanks for a great time and I look forward to seeing you again.

Best regards,
Catherine Power

Hi Guys:
My daughter Rachel Roy and her friends were absolutely thrilled with their jump yesterday! I, as her mother, want to thank you for your professionalism. Of course I was sceptical. I didn't want to talk her out of an experience of a lifetime and yet I was concerned. It didn't sink in until this morning what had happened as she reviewed yesterday's jump. She couldn't find the words. She said she had never been so scared and had never been so elated. The look on her face was one of unbelieving! I think she was on a natural high! I think this will help give her the confidence she needs to go on with getting her college education or whatever. I told her, if she can jump out of a plane, she can do anything.

She is already planning her next jump! Her girlfriend Bobbi Joe left a lady's watch behind and is hoping that whenever the gentleman brings down the video to Cornwall that he will also bring the watch! They are all employees of East Side Mario's.

Again, thanks for your excellence!

Sincerely, Dianne Roy, Cornwall, Ontario
