2009 Photos & Happenings

Skydive Gan Year End Halloween Party!!

and the winners are...

Skydive Gan held their annual Year End/Halloween Party on Sat. Oct. 31st at the Riverside Bar & Grill. Many people
came out to show off their creative costumes and share a last dinner together for the season. Prizes were handed out for
the best costumes, and as previous years, it was really difficult to pick a winner - ALL the costumes were really fantastic!!

First prize went to videographer and cameraman "Fuzzy" Dave Hatherley for his rendition of Gan's Instructor Serge's Blouin's
summer antics!! He blew up a photo of Serge's face and wore a burnt t-shirt, hat of fire and bandages illustrating Serge's near
fatal bonfire accident! And to add insult to injury... he also carried around the Gas can and lost (R.D.S.) that popularized Serge's
silly summer misfortunes! Fuzzy won a gift certificate from Ouragan for $125 off a new freefly suit and a free reserve repack

2nd prize went to couple Frank Hamel and Annie-Pier Miron for their interesting costumes--they won a free camera helmet bag
form Ouragan and a rebate coupon of 25% off Vertical Suits. 3rd prize went to Christina Villeneuve for her elaborate and ornate
costume as a fully decorated Christmas tree... complete with ornaments, ribbons and garlands! Coincidentally, Santa also paid a
visit at the party, providing a perfect opportunity to snap a photo of the two together! Christina won a $100 off an Ouragan freefly
suit (our main supplier for prizes!). We truly THANK all the suppliers who provided prizes for our party: Ouragan, Vertical Suits
and Senior Rigger Will McCarthy for their generous donations!!

A Few Honourable Mentions...

You have to hand it to the Gan Skydivers for their creativity! We had monks, priests, the devil, a drunken couch potato dude,
Popeye, a guy dressed up as Tom McCarthy holding a “Smoking Cures Cancer” sign and a toilet!! The funny costume of
Will McCarthy wearing a chair, long hair and a beer stained shirt was pretty inventive! Simon Gelinas is becoming notorious
for his excellent make-up treatment and hair dyes… and it was difficult to separate Arno from the real Popeye!! With a little
make-up, a balding grey wig and borrowed clothing, it was hard to tell John Evans from the real “Tom McCarthy”…hee hee
Scott dressed in a Toilet costume was hilarious and certainly got abused most of the night with people stuffing all kinds
of weird things down his bowl!!

Door Prizes Went To...

There were two "Door Prizes" handed out during the evening and the winners of the draw were the two religious
figures; Lyle Borody as the cross bearing monk and Dave MacLaurin as the holy priest in pope's clothing. They won
another free camera bag provided by Ouragan and a Gift Certificate from Vertical Suits!

Censored! Censored! Censored!

A Deer Hunter (practicing a little indoor hunting), a "Censored" Cowgirl (who almost lost her sign several times during the evening!)
a sexy "Stud Finder" and Ghostly mummy were just some of the other great costumes on display during the evening! And, then...
there was Serge
...in a combo costume of Frank Hamel's grass skirt - as worn on the lingerie jump, and his girlfriends
red pig tails – he looked like the television character Pippi Longstocking in some sort of flash fire nightmare!!

Laundry, Dancing and Fun!!

Another interesting costume was Karine, who came to the party as a basket of "dirty" laundry, and Serge and her almost
looked like twins with the dual red pigtails. In the photo above he struts his stuff for Tom and Debbie in his grass skirt.
Everyone hit the dance floor and enjoyed the music by the band Tone Kats. It was great to see Scott and Jan come out
and join us... and heat up the dance floor too! Kate, dressed as a sexy "stud finder" also had fun on the dance floor and
certainly did not let the knee brace stop her from dancing!! Both Wendy and Annie looked like cute cartoon characters
from the 50's... with their bows and pot-a-dot skirts! Lots of Fun costumes all around...

The Many Faces of Gan...

The girls did a great job with costumes too...Sylvie came dressed as a Race Car driver in a skintight one-piece
outfit, and Nadine was the cutest black bat we've ever seen! Hilary was dressed as a Pirate and Deb came
decked out in some Victorian number complete with mask and feathers! Sarah's black cap, gold scarf and
dress made her look like the Capitan of a luxury cruise line. Above and below are just some of the many
snapshots of the faces and costumes at the party!

More pics of Will, Simon, Sylvie, and Jean who dressed up in a great looking "Flapper" costume - show in
the photo below, and Norm who obviously came dressed up as "Norm"! Ryan looked pretty eerie in his
blood-stained gory monster/ masked Hannibal Lecter get up!!

"Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree" ...quite an elaborate costume by Christina who had head
to toe decorations and branches! In the photos below we see, Santa on Will’s knee and Christina
holding her ground as the lovely Christmas tree! By the way, did you notice Scott’s T-shirt - in the
photo above? Great mock logo that read “Bad Bull”...oh don’t we know this as true! :o)

It was GREAT party!!! Terrific costumes and awesome prizes were won! Everyone had a fantastic
time...we laughed about the crazy summer antics and recalled all the fun times we had during the season.
We danced into the wee hours and then said our good-byes until next year. We are now closed for the
winter season...but really look forward to seeing everyone next Spring!!!!

Many THANKS to all our Prize Sponsors: Ouragan Inc., Vertical Suits and repacks by Rigger
Will McCarthy – who came through with some really terrific prizes for our Halloween contest on the
best costumes! We received gift certificates and coupons on gear/helmet bags and major discounts on
popular skydiving brands and suits! We could not have done this without your generous support!!

Skydive Gan exhibits at "The Guy Show" in Kingston

The drop zone set up a booth at The Guy Show held during the weekend of Oct 3-4 2009 in Kingston, we had
a tabletop display with photos supplied by Fuzzy Dave and a promotional video created and edited by Simon
Gelinas running on a laptop. There were flyers, postcards and price lists available about Skydive Gan’s programs,
Tandems and skydiving courses. There was also a table set up to sell T-Shirts and Skydiver Girls calendars as
part of a fundraiser for “Jump For The Cause” Deb also brought along her pink jumpsuit and a photo of the new
“Women’s World Record” (set just weeks ago in Perris Valley, California in Sept.)-- to display in the booth!

Skydive Gan’s booth was manned by Deb Lovegrove who handed out flyers and answered any questions the
visitors had about skydiving. Some of our neighbors at the tradeshow included the Canadian Army who had
on display an Army tank and the cockpit of a Canadair CT-114 Tutor jet – used almost exclusively by the
Snowbird Squadron. There was a paintball and hunting company in the booth beside us and an exhibitor
selling a new line of Hockey player Borje Salming men’s sporty underwear! With an interesting poster
that was fun to take pictures of...so how do I look as a star hockey player???

Many visitors at the show did want to have their picture taken next to the Snowbird jet –but the most interesting
had to be the newly Married couple who came into the exhibition with their entire bridal party to pose for photos next to
the jet with some of the army guys in attendance! Deb decided to have a little fun in the jet cockpit as well, as she donned
her pink jumpsuit and had the pilot pretend he was pushing her out!! A favorite display was the new *hot* Yamaha that
Deb was seriously hoping she could ride off with …

A few weeks later, on Friday, October 16th the skydiving centre also exhibited at the 2nd Annual Winter Recreation and
Tourism Fair
for the public--that is part of the Fort Drum Military Base Community Outreach program. We brought along the
same tabletop display and spoke to the local Military recruits that were interested in pursuing their private skydiving licenses.

Scott Stevens took home 2 medals at the Ontario Provincials this past weekend in Sept--pictured above with

used on the freefly medal... Pretty cool !!

Deb Lovegrove & friends formed an All-Girls team for the Ontario Nationals this year called the “Diving Divas”
and because one of the girls cancelled last minute the team picked up another girl – Kim Lacroix and her boyfriend

Canopy Piloting Competion

Gan jumper Scott Stevens and instructor Pat Michaud went out to compete in the Canopy Piloting Swoop Meet
Championships held at Burnaby in August. Scott took home 3 rd place beating Pat only by a point, who finished in 4th.

Canadian Records & World Records!!

Congratulations to Al Nadeau (photo on the left) for becoming a 2-time World Record holder with a
new 108-way vertical h/d Formation Record completed on August 1st out at Skydive Chicago -
they almost made it look easy in only 6 jumps!

Congrats to Gans instructors; François Hamel and Pat Michaud (photos on the right) as well as Al Nadeau
& Martin Sevigny
--for successfully completing 2 new Canadian Freefly h/d Records on the same weekend!
They did a 15-way head down record on Friday July 30th and then went back up on Saturday and completed a
21-way h/d formation on the very first attempt. Way to go guys!! The jumps were done in Montreal at the Voltige DZ.

Labour Day Boogie!

Formation Skydives & Milestone Jumps...

We celebrated two "Milestone jumps" over the Labour Day Weekend for two of Gan's instructors. First was Tandem
Instructor Rick Powell who completed his 5000th jump!!! Close to 1800 of those are tandems alone!

Arno's 1000th Jump...

We then celebrated Arno's 1000th skydive with a perfectly planned formation by our organizer Mr. Angus Smith.
The photos above show the dirt dives and plane exits...with of course Arno and Don Campbell displaying their
best assets, shiny bald heads! And, of course lets not forget Angus' "Ass"et shown in the plane photo above!

After the jump, it was time for the customary “pie-ing” ceremony. Arno was tied down both hands & feet and then doused with
every possible food item we could get our hands on around the Drop Zone. Ketchup, mustard, molasses, oatmeal,
flour and a bunch of other stuff. To top it all off…Sylvie then covered with “pink” feathers that stuck very
nicely to the molasses! You could say he was most definitely “tarred & feathered”!!

Freeflying & Tandems

Scott Stevens, Al Nadeau and a few of the guys did some fun freeflying out of the Otter duing the weekend
into the warm blue skies over Gan! There were also plenty of tandems booked over the long weekend many happy passengers.

Formations and Spegehetti dinner!!

Angus did a great job of organizing some fun big-way formations and everyone had a chance to play! The photos
above show both; “flat Pat” andTandem instructor Serge...who usually says, ”You will never catch me do a belly jump!”
actually dirt diving for a formation jump!! Ah ha…caught ya :)

On Saturday evening, Wendy kept Kallie company, while the gilrs held another fundraising Spaghetti dinner for
JFTC that was a success--feeding over 30 people. Homemade sauce made by resident Gan jumper Rachelle Laforge ,
garlic bread, wine and dessert were on the menu. Rachelle and Deb served up the dinner inside the hanger, where tables and BBQs
were set-up to cook all the food. Thanks so much Rach for giving Deb a hand!!! We also had another familiar face doing our
Labour Day Boogie--an original Gan jumper Goran also dropped in for a visit. Was great to see all our 'ole buddies!

"Feel the Breeze" Lingerie Jumps by the DZ girls!!

Perfect weather, "sexy" barely clad ladies, 2 cameraman, 2 guys in underwear, and one in bare feet and a grass skirt!!
Was the round up for this year’s Lingerie jump. Everyone had a terrific time and girls did a great
job on the jump completing 2 points with a perfect outfacing setup for cameraman, “Fuzzy” Dave.

"TOGA" Party...

On Sunday night after jumping, we held a Toga party around the campfire--for anyone who dared, showed up in a
creative Roman wrap of some sort! Some of the costumes were pretty good. Simon looked like some Roman God
in his a two-tone Toga...and he certianly didn't mind being surrounded by a bunch of girls ;)
We also sold "Pink" Martinis that night in an effort to raise money for JFTC and Breast Cancer Research.

Simon's Grandpa does a Tandem Skydive!!

It was a Gelinas "Family Affair" as the whole family came out to watch Grandpa do a skydive
with instructor Rick Powell. Simon joined his Grandfather in freefall as they geeked the camera.

A "peek" at a few July Tandems...

Pat Michaud enjoys his jump with tandem passenger...why are mirrored goggles so COOL!!??

Check out the reflection in her goggles! Cameraman "Fuzzy" Dave appears quite clearly... :-)

It's now Frank Hamel's turn to take tandem passenger for a ride -- with a picture perfect landing!

Canada Day Otter Boogie!!

ALL PHOTOS BELOW SUBMITTED BY "FUZZY" DAVE HATHERLY

Larry's 4-way team with Philippe, José and Nathalie also came out to do some practice dives out
of the Otter on the weekend --We wish them all good luck at the Nationals!!

A GREAT time was had by all during Gan’s 5-day Otter Boogie!! Although a bit of rain did come down a couple
of times we still managed to get a bunch of jumps in and complete a whole bunch of tandems!!

Our sequential formations organized by Angus Smith were certainly challenging and quite successful on
most of the jumps. Thanks Angus…for spending time with us--We had tons of FUN !!

Nicolien did her 5th tandem with Angus and we built a cool 5-way formation around her and even turned a couple of points for
her entertainment! Actually there were several tandem formation done that weekend---we also completed a 5 point 6-way tandem
formation with Annie & Frank, with tandem master Frank keying all the points---ha ha way too cool !!!!! :o)

Mark the Pilot tells photog to look his way...as he waves out the window!!

Many happy smiles were shared from 13,500 feet in the blue skies over 1000 Islands

Each Otter load was full up to the max and Tom was quite happy he got up in the air and had soem fun with us!

Dirt diving the sequentials, Deb's sneaky grin (what's she up to now??) &...the many faces of Gan.

Night time entertainment included some music jams, great roaring campfires and an awesome Canada Day
fireworks display!! In addition to, Deb’s wicked martini mixes that everyone really enjoyed and was served up
by our resident waiter Paul - who made sure everyone had seconds & 3rds!!

"On the Road" in Florida for Christmas/New Years 08/09

A handful of Gan Staff and DZ members traveled out to Zephyrhills, Florida over the Christmas holidays
to enjoy the warm blue skies, bright sunshine and awesome “swoop pond” at Z-Hills.
We enjoyed some terrific skydives, great parties and mega laughs!

New friends were made from across the globe, Finland , Sweden , France and Germany .
Hundreds of skydivers from all over love to visit one of the largest drop zones in the US, as every year
Z-Hills plans a huge Christmas Boogie equipped with several types of aircrafts for all kinds of jumping!

pics in the center show the Gan group dirt diving a fun hybrid jump with 3 of the girls in the base
(Rachelle, Kate & Deb) walking back after a perfect landing. The other jumpers on the dive included;
Serge, Scott, Frank, Simon, Al and Marcel.

SWOOP Mania!! Many of the Gan members just could not resist the large pond located on the DZ.
Almost everyone took a shot at it - with some requiring a complete repack because they got a little too wet!
Photos (left to right): Swooping maniac Scott, Simon, Pat and *SPLASH*…goes Scott again!

Serge also went on several back-to-back loads swooping the pond – when he wasn't playing “Lifeguard” to the others :)
Milestone jumps were completed, with Kate doing her 100th , Serge completing his 1000th (in a pink dress!!),
Scott finishing his 500th and newcomer North doing his 1st ever tandem then quickly finishing up his
freefall program before heading off to the tunnel all in the same week!! And they were all PIED!!

Nighttime entertainment included a bunch of different activities like scavenger hunts and a wicked dodge ball
match. A live band for New Years Eve and the always popular “Pirate” theme night, where everyone displays
their best pirate costumes! Old friends were reunited and Arno & Simon were just shocked at the number of people
who came out to ring in the New Year! Close to 50 Canadians were at Z-Hills over the holidays and many of them
got together for a photo op in front of the Pirate Ship sitting inside the pond!

Spring is just around the corner…and we are excited about seeing you all again real soon!!
Keep checking back for updates to our 2009 Events Calendar and new plans for the upcoming season…

And, check out some of the great arial shots taken of the beautiful 1000 Islands; with Don Gravelle in his freefly suit
and a shot of Joan tracking just above the airport. Can you really find any better scenery???

Dominique exits the 182 in perfect form, a candid shot of Nick the pilot, dirt diving on the creepers and
Simon comes in for a swoop under his PD

New jumper Rachelle comes for a visit at Gan!!

On a recent vacation?Rachelle (seen in the photo above with Deb), traveled out to California in search for something
a little different….so she signed up to do a skydive and immediately got hooked!! The rest of her vacation was spent
finishing up her freefall program. A couple of weekends ago Rachelle and Deb did a few challenging RW jumps and
then through in a fun sit jump for a change of pace. Rachelle also did a freefly jump with Al Nadeau and a fun 3-way
with Serge and Michel. Rach will certainly be back because she said..."the vibe she feels at Gan is truly one of the best!!!"

After jumping we always have terrific campfires and most of Gan's staff members are a musically talented bunch! They can usually be found singing and playing guitar around the Campfire until late into the evening. In the photo above Frank serenades Sylvie with a song he created just for her titled, "I got bit by a Donkey, hee haw, hee, haw" Pretty darn funny! :)

Carve, Sit, Birdman

Al geeks the camera with a carve on the hill, Frank a sit jump out of the 206 and Simon shows off his Birdman suit

Father & Daughter do Tandems Together!

Jennifer and her Dad came out to Gan on a warm July weekend to do Tandems together!!
The photos above show them getting geared up in the hanger ? with cheerful Jen breaking into a little dance with whom
she nic-named “the flying squirrel man,” who happened to be Gan's very popular Videographer Fuzzy Dave. Jen and her Dad enjoy a hug together after their successful landing and can be seen posing with both Tandem Master Frank and “the flying squirrel man”-- Videographer Fuzzy Dave. Both had a great jump and shared something very special together!

A bunch of friends stay the weekend to cheer eachother on as they complete their tandems.

A group of friends pose on the pic nic table above … then Justin and Adriana are harnessed up and ready to go
but not until they ham it up for the camera and take more pics in the plane on their way up to altitude. Adriana also took some great shots while under canopy and some of her feet just above the airport! Below, Arno is shown putting a harness on
Matthieu and he has a stand up landing with Pat who later provides him with his Tandem certificate!

Shown above are Adriana and Deborah, and then Liz and Justin with a bunch of Gan instructors acting up for the camera.
Justin is now one of Gan's new students who has started the freefall program!

and had a terrific time! He is seen here with Tandem Master Rick Powell and Videographer Simon Gelinas.

You may recognize Bill as he use to be a long time host of MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic, but now heads up
